Peer Review Process

Journal of Agriculture and Food Science Applications (JAFSA) is committed to maintaining rigorous scholarly standards through a fair, transparent, constructive, and objective peer-review process.

All research manuscripts submitted to JAFSA undergo editorial assessment followed, where appropriate, by peer review by qualified experts in the relevant subject area. The review process is designed to assess the scientific quality, originality, methodological soundness, relevance, clarity, and contribution of each manuscript to agriculture, food science, and related disciplines.

How the Peer Review Process Works

JAFSA follows a structured editorial and peer-review workflow intended to ensure that manuscripts are evaluated consistently and professionally. The journal may use a double-anonymous peer-review approach, where the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from one another during the review process.

Manuscript Submission

Authors submit their manuscript through the journal's designated submission system in accordance with JAFSA's author guidelines.

STEP 02

Editorial Screening

The editorial team checks scope, formatting, completeness, originality, ethical requirements, and basic scholarly suitability.

STEP 03

Expert Peer Review

Suitable manuscripts are evaluated by independent reviewers with relevant expertise in the subject area.

STEP 04

Editorial Decision

The editor considers reviewer reports and makes a decision based on the overall scholarly assessment of the manuscript.

What Reviewers Evaluate

Reviewers are expected to provide an objective and constructive assessment of the manuscript. Depending on the article type, reviewers may consider the following criteria:

Originality & Contribution
Whether the manuscript provides original findings, ideas, methods, applications, or insights that contribute meaningfully to the field.
Scientific Quality
The scientific rigor, accuracy, coherence, and reliability of the research and conclusions presented.
Methodology
The appropriateness and clarity of the research design, methods, data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
Relevance & Scope
Whether the manuscript falls within JAFSA's scope and addresses issues relevant to agriculture, food science, or related applications.
Results & Discussion
Whether results are clearly presented, appropriately interpreted, and adequately connected to existing scientific knowledge.
References
The relevance, adequacy, currency, and appropriate use of cited scholarly literature.
Clarity & Presentation
The organization, readability, language, figures, tables, and overall presentation of the manuscript.
Ethical Considerations
Compliance with relevant research ethics, responsible reporting, authorship, data integrity, and other applicable scholarly standards.

Principles Guiding Peer Review

Objectivity Reviewers should evaluate manuscripts based on their scholarly content rather than personal preferences or characteristics of the authors.

Confidentiality Manuscripts and review materials should be treated as confidential documents and should not be disclosed or used improperly.

Constructive Feedback Reviewer comments should help authors improve the quality, clarity, rigor, and presentation of their work.

Conflict of Interest Reviewers should disclose potential conflicts of interest and decline assignments where impartial assessment may be compromised.

Academic Integrity Reviewers should alert the editor to substantial concerns relating to plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated data, or other serious ethical issues.

Timeliness Invited reviewers should complete reviews within the agreed timeframe or promptly notify the editorial office if they are unable to do so.

Reviewer Confidentiality

Reviewers should not share, reproduce, discuss, or otherwise disclose manuscript content or review materials without authorization from the editorial office. Reviewer identities are protected in accordance with the journal's review model.

Research Integrity

Reviewers who identify possible ethical or research-integrity concerns should communicate them confidentially to the editor and provide sufficient information to allow the editorial team to assess the concern.

Possible Editorial Decisions

Following consideration of the reviewers' reports and the manuscript's overall quality, the editor may communicate one of several possible decisions to the authors.

Accept Minor Revision Major Revision Resubmit for Further Review Reject

Where revisions are requested, authors are expected to respond carefully to reviewer comments and provide a clear explanation of changes made or reasons for not implementing particular suggestions.

Contribute as a JAFSA Peer Reviewer
